What was the best piece of advice offered to you? |
My father was a Alto saxophonist and my grandfather a fiddler (apparently one of the best old time fiddle players in Jamaica). Nat king Cole, Dennis Brown, Elvis Presley, Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Marley. (all for various reasons, from delivery to voice to sheer presence of performance)
Dennis Brown, Luciano, Bob Marley, Cocoa T, Garnet Silk.
Luciano, Sizzla, The Bloodfire Posse, Miss Dynamite.
The Lords prayer a white label single with Alpha and Omega.
Music has always been around me, I used to listen to my father practice sax on sunday mornings. My eldest brother owned a sound system and I use to get involved with that, and I have always written songs/poetry.
Meeting major artists including getting the only interview with Mr James Brown at Glastonbury festival 2004, performing in front of 15000 people (and tearing it up), winning a contest for writing a song for the RSPCC and having one of my (totally) own songs released for the first time.
The very first time I did a full solo gig. The venue was full, but the system had problems. If I hadn't finished the set I would never have got back up. Both as artist and as a Radio Avalon presenter/interviewer, it has to be Glastonbury Festival.
The Jazz world stage at Glastonbury, Wembley stadium and on international artist night at Sunsplash in Jamaica.
I have been working/rehearsing with Ramshaka since early 2003.
Members of Ramshaka are also members of Toxic Sound system, for who I had done several PA's, having heard I was looking for a backing band we got together and it worked. Nothing has been firmly decided yet but I will let you know as soon s I do. We have just completed our first 5 track album called Revelations part II, and we will be adding more tracks and remixing for an 18 track album. I will also be continuing to work with other labels, and possible future releases could be seen from Iration steppas and the Vibronics stables. The latest release (Oct 2004) is a 1st production or Operation sound system and is entitled Rally Round. By contacting me at teacha@ukhq.co.uk
As above.

Sci-fi, Horror, Comedy, Martial arts and historical. Basically if i like it will watch it.
Jamaica, the rest of the W.I. and the Canary Islands.
My father hails from Old works, st Catherine, Jamaica. My mother from Bury, Lancashire, England, and I was born in Derby, England.
Yes, both.
Yes, both.
One brother is active with his own Recording studio, producing ggae music in Jamaica.
Well bwoy this is a hard one. Each political party for any country is corrupt. Therefore, whilst keeping the law of the country, I cannot support any party. My voice and views can be heard through my music. I simply want freedom, justice and equality for all, supported and promoted by love, peace and the creators word. JAH RASTAFARI. I really can only ever stop thinking about music and work, if I go freshwater lake fishing. Although a recent holiday in Lanzarote did a good job.
A Border Collie.
I live in Devon, southwest England. It's not Jamaica but where I am is almost ideal. The weather is mild and most of all I am on the coast and the countryside is all around. I am a man of nature and love the sea and countryside
Mexico, Portugal, Germany (east and west), Sweden, U.S, Canada, Poland, Jamaica, Tenerife (Canary islands) and Lanzarote (Balaerics)
I have always been a keen sports fan, enjoying most sports. As an athlete (all sports at amatuer level) I enjoyed participating in the long jump and shot putt. I played rugby, mostly as blind side flanker (wing forward) but occasionally have played (thankfully only when needs demand) prop, and also winger. For soccer (football) my normal positions were defensive centre or goalkeeper. I particularly enjoy freshwater fishing and have dabbled with a little golf. I believe my main sport would have been cricket which I excelled at until dislocating my left elbow, and thereafter moving from a predomintently cricket playing locale to one that mainly played rugby (union).
The normal things, like new car, more property, holiday etc. But then I would also use a good portion to develop a 5 year old personal project. The project involves making recording studios available to all those who cannot really afford them. I have been running a self funded, managed and engineered, community based recording studio in Plymouth, it is cheaper than any other studio and produces quality demo's, comparable to most other local recording studios that cost a lot more and can deliver a lot less. (If I could I would set one up in every third world or developing country and any inner city (so called) first world countries) monetarily challenged community.
One of the best pieces of advice ever offered to me was by a Jamaican reggae artist named Sugar Minott. When I once asked him, what advice he would give an up and coming artist I expected him to say take vocal or breathing training, or words to that effect. He in fact told me : TREAT YOURSELF AS A TEN DOLLAR MAN YOU WILL BE TREATED LIKE A TEN DOLLAR MAN, TREAT YOURSELF AS A THOUSAND DOLLAR MAN AND YOU WILL BE TREATED AS A THOUSAND DOLLAR MAN! In other words if you have got it, don't under value it, or yourself. | |
